I’ll start off by saying that Los Pilares is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. Most everybody has one, and it really depends on your taste and experiences. From the outside it looks just like another generic Mexican restaurant in a strip center. That’s what I thought every time I passed by until I stopped in. My wife and I first ate here with her parents five year’s ago, and we’ve been back several times since. They have a nice bar if that’s your thing, and they have live music from time to time.

The service has always been great here no matter how many people we had with us. I’ve tried almost everything on the menu, but I definitely have a couple favorites I always come back to. I typically order the chicken nachos with extra cilantro (I love to sprinkle it all over) and the tostadas de ceviche. It comes with a nice shrimp ceviche on a tostada. Always great stuff. Of course we also order the typical white cheese dip along with our chips and salsa. (Who doesn’t.)

I’ve brought friends and family here and everyone has loved it. If you’re looking for great Mexican at a good price, then I’d definitely suggest you try out Los Pilares in Bartlett.

I must tell you that I’m extremely glad I found this place. I had passed by it several million times without ever getting the chance to stop by. This past Saturday, a friend of mine was telling me about these great wings he had. I asked him where and he told me All Star. He told me that they had whole wings and their “hot” was very good. That seemed good enough for me at the moment so I decided that was where I would eat lunch.

When I order wings I typically call it in first and then dine in. When I placed my order the lady on the phone told me it would be 15 minutes. I got there exactly 15 minutes later and when I walked in she asked me if I was Brock. I was thinking they probably didn’t have my order ready yet. I was wrong. It was sitting right there at the counter waiting for me. That was impressive. She was very nice and when she told me the total ($7.98) I thought she had made a mistake. I said, “Oh I’m sorry I wanted the 5 piece whole wing combo that includes fries and a drink.” She replied, “that’s what you got.” Wow, $7.98??? Best price I’ve seen.

When I got my drink I noticed they had a clever sign hanging on the wall.

To this message I agree, BUT I’m here to spread the good news. I hope this spreads fast.

I was pretty excited when I opened my box of wings. Just like Rayford’s they tossed the carrots and celery in their hot sauce. I’m not sure why but I f****ing love that. It goes so good when you dip it into the sauce. I had plenty of fries, and 5 beautiful whole wings. Their “hot” sauce is very very very very good. Freakishly good. I went through several napkins on my journey. Well worth it. I’m not sure at all what they put in the sauce, but it’s great.

All Star Hot Wings on Urbanspoon

My friend Chris and I were looking through Urbanspoon.com one day and came across Jimmy’s page. We went to their website and saw a picture of this huge, beautiful deep dish pizza. I had just recently seen an episode of Man vs. Food and host Adam Richmond was eating this great looking pizza in Chicago. When I saw Jimmy’s page I immediately knew I wanted to try it.

Their site says that a 9″ pizza can feed 3-4. Somehow I didn’t believe it so I ordered their 16″ pizza by phone. The person on the phone let me know several times that it takes an hour. 15 minutes to prep, and 45 minutes to cook. I said, “no problem.” They also said that it’s a big pizza. Really big. Again, I said “no problem.”

I showed up an hour later with my son who was a little younger so I was holding him. The lady told me the pizza is heavy and I should use two hands. When I picked it up I became a believer. This thing had some nice heft. I opened it up to take a peek and it looked great!

When I got it home I had to use a butcher knife to cut this thing because my pizza cutter literally sunk all the way in. I cut it into 8 slices…..huge slices. After I finished my first one I remembered that they said the 9″ feeds 3-4 people. Suddently, I felt they were right. It was one of the sexiest pizzas I’d ever seen. Nice sauce with plenty of cheese and sausage.

My only disappointment (a slight one) was that the sausage was the generic previously frozen sausage ball type things that are supplied by some food distributor. Deep down inside I was hoping that this deep dish pizza had some better sausage to keep it authentic. Anyway, it was still very good. It took us two days to finish too by the way.

I plan on going back to try their Italian Beef Sandwiches dipped in Au Jus. I’ve actually had one of those in Chicago and I fell in love with them. Their menu on their site jimmysdogs.com says that it comes with sweet or hot giardiniera peppers. I think I’ll try a little of both! Also, if you’re going to order their deep dish…………Allow 1 hour! (jimmysdogs.com reference)
