Exlines’ Best Pizza in Town
Exlines has been infamous for their pizzas in the Memphis area for some time. After thinking about it I realized that the location in Raleigh is the only one I’ve eaten at. I stopped by here a few times for lunch one week when I was working near the area. When I walked in it looked exactly as I remembered it forever ago. The last time I had been I wasn’t even a teenager and Mortal Kombat II was the hottest new arcade game out. (I remember playing it back then.)
Everything inside looked exactly the same. They still had the old pictures of Memphis dignitaries hanging on the walls. (Dick Hawley and Larry Finch for example.) They even had an old Penny Hardaway #25 jersey hanging on the wall from the old Memphis State days. They didn’t have a very large dine in crowd for lunch but they did have several people picking up to go orders. This made for a peaceful lunch. The Olympic basketball qualifier games were on so this made for a good lunch. I ate there three times that week and I tried something different each time I went. Somehow I didn’t order a pizza the whole time even though the smells coming from the kitchen told me I should.
The first day I went I decided on the meatball sub because honestly I was hungry and it sounded great.

It was great! The meatballs were outstanding and the sauce with cheese made it perfect. I definitely recommend trying this one!
The second time I went I wanted something a bit lighter. I had heard the salads were good, but big so I figured I could eat healthier and still get full. I was right. They absolutely put everything on this salad. I got it with chicken strips and it was a perfect salad.

The third day I went I ordered what I had seen lots of people order….. hot wings. I really wanted some that day and I figured why not. They were pretty good. Not as good as Don Don’s down the road but still not bad. I ordered 5 whole wings with fries and I left there a fairly happy camper. With so many excellent hot wing choices in Memphis it’s hard to really compete unless it’s your specialty. Pizza is obviously their’s, but I don’t blame them for trying.
If you every in the Raleigh area and want some great food with super friendly people please stop by. They have been around a long long while and we need places like this to stay around for a while longer. Next time I go I intend to try their pizza and see if they really are the best in town.
