Central BBQ
My wife and I stopped by Central BBQ after doing the Gibson 5k run downtown. We were both famished. (remember that 5k hunger I was talking about?) We got here pretty late. (Around 9pm) The weather was perfect for patio eating, and there were plenty of people there. I’ve had Central BBQ before, but it wasn’t at any location. It was either catered or at an event. I have been really excited about visiting here for a long, long time. My friend Chris rubs it in my face everytime he goes to eat there. Now I’ve had my chance.
It didn’t take us long at all to pick out our order. I got the half order of pulled pork nachos, and a bag of their pork rinds. My wife got the half slab of ribs. (Half sauce and half dry rub.) We got our drinks and went out to the patio. Like I mentioned earlier the weather was perfect for this. The breeze was very nice and it contributed to the relaxing atmosphere. We snacked on the superb pork rinds while we waited for our food. These were by far the best I’ve ever eaten. (And I’ve tried a lot of chicharones believe me.)
My wife’s ribs looked outstanding. The sauce was nice and tangy while the dry rub was also excellent. You could taste the subtle smoke flavors throughout. These were great ribs.
My nachos were everything great nachos should be. Spicy, gooey, messy, cheesy, tangy, and awesome. For some reason I always find myself leaning towards nachos when I see them on the menu. I guess its the culmination of such great things all served with cheese and chips. The pulled pork was truly great. I could have simply eaten it alone it tasted so good.
We also ordered a large pulled pork sandwich to go with some fries. The staff was very quick, and very nice. They suggested putting the slaw and sauce on the side so we could build out own. They gave us plenty of meat, and it made one hell of a sandwich. Piled high with pulled pork, great slaw, and their nice tangy bbq sauce it was the perfect representation of a perfect Memphis BBQ sandwich.
If you couldn’t tell by my excessive use of positive adjectives I absolutely love this place. I also want to try their other location on Summer Ave. very soon. If have friends or family from out of town please take them here so they can truly experience what great Memphis BBQ is.
