Interstate Barbeque

Ok, so if you are from Memphis you’ve likely tasted some of the best barbeque in the world. Another fun factoid is that if you ask ten Memphians what their favorite BBQ joint is you could possibly get ten different answers. Also, if you are not from Memphis and are visiting you probably have heard of a few places around town.

I recently had some family visiting from Indiana and they said they wanted to eat some good barbeque. I told them to take your pick, and they asked about Interstate Barbeque. It’s been featured with Bobby Flay, Rachel Ray, and Alton Brown to name a few. Between that and the fact that the Neely’s have their own show now it’s had plenty of positive exposure. Since I had been there before and liked it I told them I would be happy to take them there.

Interstate Barbeque is literally located off the interstate on Third Street. It’s not the fanciest of places, but in my experiences the less fancy a BBQ place looks the better the BBQ. It was a Friday afternoon, but it wasn’t too busy. We got seated right away, and as we made our way through to our table the wonderful smells took us over.

I told them they must have the BBQ spaghetti and the bologna if they had nothing else. We ended up ordering a huge sampler type platter. It had all their greatest hits. It had their famous BBQ spaghetti, sausage, bologna, ribs, and wonderful pulled pork. I’ve read several reviews from people who didn’t like their sauce. This is always a pretty sensitive subject in Memphis. I happen to love their sauce. It is what good Memphis barbeque sauce should taste like. My out of town visitors were very impressed as was I.

I’m glad Interstate Barbeque lived up to their reputation. It was a great experience, and I’m sure I’ll be back soon!
